Not sure if it is only me, but I love to look around Pinterest. I found this one image of a spiral colorful globe. Always thought it would make a nice box for something small or an ornament.
The creator is Oschene and they have have a website for all their paper projects. You can find Oschene’s how-to post of the Ten-sided Yin-Yang globe here. There is also a youtube video of how to assemble it at Oschene’s youtube channel.
Tips
If you plan to do this using a printer cutter, here is a link to the dxf or cutting file for it. If you are using Silhouette Studio, this is my studio 3 file. Password for them is my website name without the “www” and “.com”. Paper I used is 120gsm colored paper. I also tried using a folder but it was a little too stiff.
Note: that in the template image, there is a broken line telling you where to crease. So keep that in mind before before you start assembling.
If you are doing it without a printer cutter, just take the template from Oschene’s post then I printed one out. You can use it as a guide to cut the colored paper. You will be needing 10 of these strips. You can go crazy with the colors.
Experiments
I wanted to try and make colorful globe ornaments that you could hang. Tried to insert a ribbon but that didn’t work out. In the end, I found out that a simple thread or a plastic thread would do the trick.
They looked really nice hanging and spinning a bit. Think these would be awesome to hang at events.
Decided to try and make a plastic version because I had some old plastic folders from a previous project. I think it came out quite nice.
Since one of the plastic strips were transparent, I put a fake candle inside to see how it would look.
Came out better than I thought it would. Can also hang there like the paper ones.
I plan to make an extra large one next! Just need to buy large colored paper. Going to try and make one as large as a head.
