Upcycled Tissue Rolls into Paper Roses

Couple of weeks ago I found an interesting pin on upcycled tissue rolls.
I love the idea of recycling and tissue rolls are easy to collect. In a week,
I had 5 normal sized ones and also a 1 long one from paper towels. These rolls were all white.

Uncolored and colored rose.

The end result was lovely. The one on the right was my first try and the left my 2nd. The tissue rolls I have found are all white so I decided to put watercolor on it. You can also spray paint them if you want to color them faster. The spray paint also cover up any unsightly globs of gun. Make sure to paint the edges as well.

Thinking of using this as decorations on the Christmas tree or a present topper. I have some metallic red and gold spray paints I could use on them.

The tutorial for this can be found at the Accent and Petals website HERE.

Some tips tho:
1. Curl the sides of the petal before gluing. (I keep forgetting.) I used a chopstick to help curl the edges. It also helps in shaping and placing the single center petal.
2. Old glue gun sticks will come out yellowish. I bought a box for future
use and now have a half full box of yellowish sticks. I did find some clear sticks but they are not always in store.
3. Add some extra glue on the rolls’ layer before assembling to make sure the carton don’t peel off when you start gluing the edges.

Although not all upcycled tissue rolls, I have a small board on pinterest with other recycling craft ideas.

EDIT:

Added magnets to 2 of the roses I made. I also tried to use decorated cardstock along with the tissue tube. I think I like the ones with no pattern better.
